[Palom is dressed in his usual tunic and has a smirk on his face, sitting under a tree.]

I am pleased to say that I am now resuming my tutorial duties to those who want to learn black magic. If anyone inside the village is willing to learn from yours truly, you can find me outside the Hall of Prayers or inside.

[Pauses for a minute, then resumes.]

And I'm sure you heard about Leviathan's rampage in the sea. I'm sure he'll calm down and you'll be able to travel to Mysidia... In one way or another.

[She pauses a couple of paces away, speaking softly so as not to startle him from whatever he's reading.]

Palom...?

[Palom closes his book and looks up to see Terra.]

Huh? Oh, it's you, Terra. Did you want something from me?

[She nods.]

I know some black magic, but I'm sure there are spells in this world that I'm not familiar with. So, I'd like to learn whatever you'll teach me...if that's okay.

...What spells do you know, then?

[Looks at her curiously.]

[She stares downward, a bit self-conscious as she speaks.]

I know fire magic, up to Firaga, ice and thunder magic up to Blizzara and Thundara, Sleep, Stop, Poison, Warp Osmose, Drain, Bio, Tornado [slight wince there], Break, Death, Meteor...

...and I knew Graviga, Meltdown and Ultima, but I can't seem to access them in this world.

[Palom's face is now colored impressed.]

That's amazing. You already know the high-tier spells, save for Toad, Pig, and Quake, I assume.

[And his eyes widen a bit as he hears the word "Ultima".]

And I don't know what the first two spells are, but if I recall correctly, that Ultima spell was used by Cecil and Rosa.

[She stares, surprised.]

Really? But I never saw Cecil use it....

From what he told me, it was some sort of ability he and Rosa could use.

Hm...that explains it, then. Rosa wasn't in the war.

[She shrugs.]

But anyway...do you think that means I have a chance to regain it here?

It depends. That spell wasn't really researched upon in the past... But it could be possible, considering the nature of the world right now.

[She chews her lip, frowning in thought.]

It's a powerful spell...and one that I hesitated to use often, because of that. But I have a feeling it will be necessary in this world, just like before. I want to be ready to protect people, as best I can.

...I understand. I'll whatever I possibly can to help you.

[She smiles, surprised but pleased at that.]

Thank you. I'm ready to begin immediately.

Very well. How about we start off using the Toad spell first?

Toad?

[An odd choice to her mind, but then she's not used to using status spells much, except Sleep.]

Alright....

[Well, she's already learned most of the offensive spells...]

Okay, do you know what a toad is? I want you to try to visualize turning your target transforming into one.

[She nods at that first question.]

I do, but...who's my target?

[Surely he didn't mean himself? Then again, she's not going to cast it on an unsuspecting and unwilling person....]

[Palom frowns. Porom would chew him out for casting toad on someone other than a monster. He looks around and spots something rustling in the bushes.]

I do believe we have your first target.

[Terra hesitates, but upon seeing a Tiny Mage, she knows she has to act fast. Those can be rather annoying, especially if in a group. She tries to cast Toad...though the first attempt doesn't go anywhere. Unfazed, the Tiny Mage casts Osmose, draining some of her magic.]

You have to concentrate when you cast the spell! Don't give up!

[He'll step in if it tries to cast any tricky spells on her.]

[That's good, because it's about to cast Thunder. She tries again, a frustrated noise escaping her when it fails.]

I'm trying!

[Must focus....]

[Damn him for not learning white magic. He begins to cast Stop on the tiny mage.]

[Terra sighs as the tiny mage freezes in place. She's grateful for the help, but at the same time wishes it hadn't be necessary.]

I guess I need more work on this....

[At least the Stop spell will buy her some more time.]

It takes a while before the spell takes effect. Some are resistant to it, some aren't.

[Well, she'll try a couple more times anyway. Nothing happens for a bit, but then, a few minutes later, just as the spell is about to wear off, there's a tiny toad.]

I did it!

Good. Very good. Now we can move on with the Pig spell.

Is there a reason someone might use Pig over Toad, or the other way around?

Well, mostly it's a case of preference. Most mages like casting Toad spells because the enemy's resistance to magic is greatly lowered, but the Pig spell can also reduce their battle strength.

[Palom stretches his arms and sighs.]

In my case, I prefer to use both in certain situations.

[She nods, memorizing the differences.]

I suppose both have their uses...especially if the enemy is resistant to Sleep.

True. Silence works just as well.

Silence...that's white magic, isn't it? I don't think I've retained that one.

Have you talked to my sister about learning that?

I might do that soon, but...as much as I hate to say it, I think there are other spells I need to concentrate on first. Once I regain those, I can look into more white magic.

[She doesn't seem thrilled about being a powerhouse, pouting slightly. Then again, she knows it's the best way to protect her friends.]

[Terra might be a powerful ~~red~~ mage indeed ~~if they existed here~~.]

I'm sure that's for the best.
