[Rydia stares into the linkshell worriedly, not wasting time in getting to the point.]

Has anyone heard from Ceodore? It's been too long, and---

[She abruptly stops, eyes widening as she stares at something out of view.]

...Mother?!?

[The linkshell closes and doesn't open for a while after that. When it does, Rydia is pale and disheveled, slumped to her knees by a river. Marks -similar to burns but not quite- can be seen all along her body. Her voice is soft, dazed.]

...what happened...?

[She doesn't respond for a moment, just staring and unfocused.]

[She sighs and just lays down, gathering the strength needed to stand. It might take a while.]

[Rydia ponders that, but shakes her head slightly.]

I'm not that badly off. I'll get the sylphs to heal me, once I get up. Then I'll find out where I am....

Well, then. About Ceodore, I haven't seen him in a while. I'm not sure he's even here.

[Oh, does she not like the sound of that. She sighs and frowns, raking a hand through her hair.]

If he's not...then Baron is without its ruling family.

...Your mother...?

[Kain has an uneasy tone to his voice, mostly he's wondering if he'll be needing to be wary of a vengeful Mist Dragon coming after him.]

[Rydia nods, her gaze unfocused.]

I saw her so clearly, but....

...what do you mean? Were you dreaming?

[Kain would really rather avoid magical dreams that seem real.]

[mistlegacy]

...no. No, I wasn't.

[Her voice gains strength as she continues.]

But I saw her, as well as I see you now. It was perfect, for just that night, but after leading me to the water, she began to sink into it and....

[She shudders.]

I remember it tugging me down, too.

[Kain sighs heavily, hating the sound of it. He'd almost rather be dealing with Rydia's vengeful mother right now.]

I don't know, but be careful. I'll ask Cuore if she has any clue what this might mean, but for now...just stay away from the water, if you can.

[Kain wonders if that will be possible, given how this seems to have led her along anyway, but...]

[She glances down, then shakes her head in confusion.]

I don't know how that happened.

Are you all right?! I can heal you! I... what happened? What do you mean... about your mother...?

I saw her, she lead me here, and then...it all went strange. I'm not sure how to explain it.

[She sighs, then sags back down, against the earth.]

Where are you?

I'm in Baron right now. If you tell me where you are, I'll come right away!

[She glances around, taking a moment to process what she sees, but then it clicks.]

...outside Mist Cave. You know, near that river...?

[She nods weakly and closes her eyes.]

I...saw her so clearly, as well as I could see you or Cuore or anyone else. It was a little after sunset or so, I think. She was just as I remembered her, and time seemed to pass so quickly as we headed toward the water.

When we reached the riverside, she stepped into the water and waited for me. She said it would be safe, and I believed her. But as soon as the water touched my skin, the...yes, there was music, and it stopped. And then she began to sink.....

Yes, but...I don't remember what happened after that, just that I awoke where I am now.
