I've returned from true death twice now. I wonder whether this makes my luck better than average... or far worse.

[Worse for the dying in the first place, but better because... well, twice now he's faced what he thought was an eternal end for him, and come back both times. Kain pauses for a moment, gathering his thoughts. Going through death again reminds him though, of an important thing about what he saw.]

That dragon in the dream... I've encountered it before. All of Cosmos' warriors would have at the end of every cycle, whether they recall it or not. Its significance cannot be underestimated.

[Terra scoots back over to Kain after he's done with the linkshell, a little pale herself but otherwise fine. Her brow furrows as she settles in, mulling over what he said.]

So there was a reason for it being there, after all. In the dream, I mean. It seemed so random, at the time....

The Warrior of Light fought it...and he lost all his memories. Is that what happened then, too?

I don't know much about that machine he was fighting, but yes. That dragon was... I believe it was responsible for erasing our memories during the war, when a cycle was ended.

[If the ending of that last one was any indication of what usually happened, anyway.]

...The Warrior lost his memories? Are they gone from him here?

No, but I...wasn't really paying attention, in the immediate aftermath.

[Because Kain died and all. She shudders just thinking about it.]

He seems to be fine, now, though.

That dragon had a role in the Conflict of the Gods, that foreign war that several of us fought in. It... erased our memories, as part of a process reviving us for a new cycle.

In the war of the gods, Cosmos and Chaos... we were made to fight against one another. We would fight, and fall, and then when one side was victorious, that dragon would... He was involved in our revival for a new cycle. But there was a price to be paid for revival... our memories.

I only remember seeing him at the end of the last cycle I was in, although I assume he resurrected the fallen warriors each time. That ending... I recall seeing you there, as well.
